Sophomore Jackie Nared is a 6-1 guard from Portland, Ore.

Questions for Jackie

How did you choose your number?
I was number 23 in high school and I thought I would change it up some since everyone is 23.

What has impressed you the most about Coach Frese and her staff?
The work that they have put in the off season and how much they want to see us improve.

What are some of your goals for the next three years?
Win the ACC championship, graduate on time and win a National Championship

From Freddie: What is your favorite shot on the court?
Anywhere from 3!

From Leann: What are your thoughts on playing in the ACC?
It's really fun! I love the competition and the physicality and playing in front of big crowds. Our home crowd is the best :)

From Carol: If you had a walk-out song, what would it be?
That would be pretty hard, probably something Beyonce

What motto do you try to live by each day?
Lots, mainly you get out what you put in and of course live, laugh and love!

From Stuart: Who is your role model and why?
I would say my parents just because they raised me and they have done the most to get me where I am today

Who is your favorite professional sports player?
Of all time of course Michael Jordan, but currently Dwyane Wade I love his game!

What is your dream job?
I'm not sure yet something with sports where I'm doing something I love and having fun with it and making a nice salary :)

From Kathy: What do you most look forward to this season?
ACC play and after that playing in the NCAA tournament.

Tell me about your coaches.
All our coaches are really talented at what they do, with lots of energy and enthusiasm that makes you want to work harder and be a better player.

Where's your hometown? What is something unique about it/your favorite thing to do there?
My hometown is Portland, Oregon. It's pretty far away; I just usually like to spend time with my family and friends when I am there

From Tom: What's on your iPod?
A lot of everything, I love all kinds of music!

From Shawn: What team do you most look forward to playing each year?
DUKE, huge rivals, but love the competition

From Carrie: Who got you in to playing basketball?
My dad, I started pretty young I have been playing since I was about 8 and I always had a love and passion for the game.

From Jackie: Jackie, it was really a pleasure watching how you improved this season. Do you feel like you've really gotten better as a basketball player? What was the biggest thing about transitioning from playing high school in Oregon to being able to compete at Maryland? Thanks for choosing Maryland.
Yes I think I have become much better as a basketball player and have grown as a person as well through my experience here. High school in Oregon is nowhere near as competitive and tough as it is in Maryland but I love it, it makes me have to work much harder but it is definitely paying off.

 

From: Heather: What do you do to unwind after a game?
Just relax in my room and listen to music and pass out, I'm usually exhausted!

From Thomas: Do you have any pre-game superstitions or routines?
No I've never been too superstitious just always have to have my gum!
