COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Corey Peltier upset No. 8 Luke Rebertus at 184 pounds and the University of Maryland wrestling team remained undefeated in 2011 with a 19-12 victory over in-state rival Navy on Saturday.

With the win, Maryland improved to 10-3 on the season and an undefeated 5-0 since the New Year. The Midshipmen dropped to 3-2 on the season.

"This was a huge match for our guys and our program," said head coach Kerry McCoy. "[Maryland-Navy] is a heated rivalry and, outside of conference play, today was probably our biggest match of the year. It's good for us to set the tone and come out strong."

Starting at 149 pounds, Ben Dorsay gave the Terps a quick 3-0 lead with his decision over Navy's Collin Leadbetter. The Midshipmen countered, however, with No. 6 Bryce Saddoris' victory over No. 13 Kyle John to tie it up at three points each.

Maryland answered with a pair of wins by two if its top-20 grapplers. No. 5 Josh Asper earned bonus points with a 9-1 major decision over Mason Bailey and No. 17 Mike Letts followed with a 4-0 shutout over Matt DeMichiel to extend Maryland's lead.

At 184 pounds, Corey Peltier faced No. 8 Luke Rebertus in what would be one of the most entertaining matches of the day.

After a scoreless first period, Peltier struck first with a takedown in the second followed by a Rebertus escape to close the lead to one. In the third, Peltier picked up an early escape and, after withstanding a takedown by Rebertus, the junior from Exeter, R.I., secured the upset win with one final takedown which brought everyone in the Comcast Pavilion to their feet.

Following the dramatic upset at 184 pounds, Christian Boley earned a 5-3 decision over Navy's Greg Prioleau to improve the Terrapin lead to 16-3.

The Midshipmen tightened the lead to just four points after winning three straight decisions at heavyweight, 125 and 133 pounds.

Needing to avoid a major decision loss to ensure the Terp team victory, senior captain Jon Kohler allowed the 689 fans in attendance to breathe easy with a 4-0 decision over Dustin Haislip.

Maryland opens conference play tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Comcast Pavilion against the No. 16 Virginia Tech Hokies.
