PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After defeating Boston and Harvard on Friday, the University of Maryland wrestling team continued its success as they squared off against the Brown Bears on Saturday afternoon. The Terps (8-3) topped Brown 38-15 by winning seven of their 10 matches on the day.
"Today was a good day. It was the best effort I have seen for our guys all year," said head coach Kerry McCoy. "It was a great way to finish the trip. We scored bonus points and got pins. That's a lot of fun to see. Ruland, Kohler, Asper, Peltier and Myers did a great job winning all of their matches. I look forward to building off this weekend."
After Brown earned the first points of the day with Billy Watterson's pin-fall of Pat Strizki at 125 pounds, the Terps answered quickly with a Lou Ruland decision at 133 pounds and a Jon Kohler technical fall over Brown's C.J. Howard at 141.
Danny O'Malley suffered a close 4-2 defeat to Giuseppi Lanzi at 149 pounds, but Maryland countered swiftly again with a pin by No. 15 Kyle John at 157 pounds.
Following No. 5 Josh Asper's win by forefeit at 165 pounds, Brown received its finals points on the day thanks to a Brandon Vorrius pin-fall over Alex Pagnotta.
Just as they had done all day, however, the Terps responded with bonus points of their own, with Corey Peltier and Spencer Myers earning pin-falls at 184 and 285 pounds, respectively, and Dallas Brown winning by forfeit.
