Sophomore Alyssa Thomas of the 10th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week the league announced Monday.
The Terrapin sophomore from Harrisburg, Pa. picked up where she left off the 2010-11 season - racking up numerous conference honors. She was named ACC Rookie of the Week last year a school-record seven times, including the last two weeks of the regular season.
Thomas finished the week averaging 19.5 points per game and 11.0 boards per contest. Her efforts helped lead the Terps (2-0) to wins over Loyola and No. 11 Georgetown.
In the 72-53 win over the Hoyas, Thomas had 19 points and 15 rebounds off 7-for-19 shooting from the field. She grabbed 12 defensive rebounds in the game and notched two steals.
In Friday's season opener vs. the Greyhounds, she went 8-for-13 from the field for 20 points and pulled in seven rebounds. She nabbed four steals and dished three assists. Thomas went 9-for-11 from the foul line over the two games.
