COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Junior Brittany Dipper and sophomore Katie Schwarzmann were tabbed IWLCA National Goalie and Midfielder of the Year, respectively, on Sunday.
Dipper was statistically the best the goalie in the nation in 2011, boasting a stellar 6.54 goals against average and a career-high 141 saves. The junior from Clarksboro, N.J., was also named Synapse Sports and Womenslax.com's National Goalie of the Year. She is only the third Terrapin to win national goalie of the year honors, joining Alexis Venechanos (2003) and Alex Kahoe (2000).
Schwarzmann was simply spectacular in the midfield in only her second season at Maryland. The Sykesville, Md., product landed IWLCA First Team All-America honors this season after being named a second team pick as a freshman in 2010. The Tewaaraton finalist registered team highs in goals (65), ground balls (38), and draw controls (45).
The Terps have boasted the nation's top midfielder for four consecutive seasons. Former Tewaaraton award winner Caitlyn McFadden captured the honor in each of her last two seasons in College Park and Dana Dobbie was tabbed IWLCA's top midfielder in 2008.
