COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland swimming and diving program has announced its 2011-2012 schedule, which features eight home dates at the Eppley Recreation Natatorium.

The Terps will look to improve on a very solid 2010-11 campaign which saw the women's squad land in the top 25 at the NCAA Championships for the second straight season.

After playing host to the annual Red-Black Invite, Maryland opens its competitive season with Atlantic Coast Conference tilts with NC State and Duke Oct. 21 and 22. The squad will then face their third and final league foe when they head to Chapel Hill for a dual meet against North Carolina Nov. 5.

The Terps welcome UMBC Nov. 12 before the Terp Cup kicks off Nov. 17.

"The Terp Cup is an opportunity for us to compete in a championship format similar to conference and NCAA Championships," head coach Sean Schimmel, who is entering his fourth season at Maryland, said. "The team has a great amount of pride when we compete in our home pool and this shows with the great results we have had at the Terp Cup over the past three seasons."

Following the Tom Dolan Invite Dec. 8-11, Maryland travels to Delray Beach, Fla., for its annual training trip in late December.

The Terps begin 2012 with a short trip to Towson (Jan. 7) and head to Pennsylvania for a quad against Pittsburgh, Villanova and Richmond (Jan. 13-14).

Dual meets against BIG EAST opponents West Virginia Jan. 21 and Georgetown Feb. 4 cap the regular season before Maryland propels into the ACC Championships in Blacksburg, Va.

"I am really excited about how our 2011-2012 schedule is set up," Schimmel said. "Our focus will always be the ACC Championships and NCAAs. Our competitions in January and early February should really help lead us into our championship season. I am looking forward to the 2011-2012 season and to continuing to do things we have never done before."

The 2012 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will be held in Auburn, Ala. The men will compete in Seattle, Wash.
