GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Fifteen members of the 2010 University of Maryland women's soccer team were among the 280 Terrapin student-athletes that were recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference on its 55th annual ACC Academic Honor Roll.
The 15 Terps were led by a trio of four-time honorees in seniors Colleen Deegan, Molly Dreska and Caitlin McDowell, who was the program's first CoSIDA Academic All-American and the 2010 ACC Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Senior Erika Theisen and junior Amy O'Sullivan made the list for the third time, while juniors Yewande Balogun, Annesia Faulkner, Becky Kaplan, Arielle Nehemiah and Jasmyne Spencer and sophomore Olivia Wagner made it for the second time.
Junior Lydia Hastings, sophomores Megan Gibbons, Rachele Lamarre and Cristina Sanchez-Quintinar and freshman Kayla Clarke also earned a spot on the Honor Roll.
The Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.00 or better for the full academic year. The conference acknowledged a record 2,834 student-athletes for their hard work in the classroom during the 2010-11 academic year.
The 280 Terrapin student-athletes honored by the league are the most of any of the ACC's eight public institutions.
The 2011 Maryland women's soccer team, which finished the 2010 season with a No. 10 final ranking after earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, will begin its season on Wednesday, Aug. 10 with an exhibition at Ludwig Field vs. perennial NCAA tournament participant West Virginia. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and admission is free.
