COLUMBUS, Ohio -
In the final match of the Sports Imports Classic, the Terps lost to No. 25 Ohio State in four sets, 3-1, Saturday night. Maryland (6-6) completed the invitational at 1-2, after falling to Albany, 3-0, in its first match Saturday.
Sophomore Mary Cushman earned all-tournament honors and led the Terps with 15 kills against the Buckeyes. Freshman Adreene Elliott tallied eight kills and senior Maddi Lee and junior Caitlin Adams finished with six.
With Ohio State leading 16-14 in the first set, the Buckeyes put together a 6-0 run to pull away from the Terps. Ohio went on to win the set 25-18.
The Buckeyes used a 7-0 run to take command of the second set and win 25-16.
In the third set, the Terps fought off two Buckeye set points, and following an Ohio State error, Lee clinched the set for the Terrapins, 27-25.
Ohio State jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the fourth set and went on to win the final set, 25-18.
Lee and Adams paced the Terps offensively in the first game of the day against Albany. Lee tallied 10 kills and Adams finished with eight.
In the first set, Maryland rallied from 14-10 hole to tie the match at 16. The set remained tight and Albany fought off five Terrapin set points before back-to-back aces by Albany's Abbey Wexel clinched the set for the Great Danes, 33-31.
The two teams traded leads in the second set. Albany scored the last three points to win the set, 25-23.
The Great Danes scored 10 unanswered points early in third set and went on to win, 25-8.
