PITTSBURGH - The Maryland swimming and diving team put up several top finishes Friday on day one of its quadrangular at Pittsburgh.

The women's team leads Pittsburgh 109-58, Richmond 119-45, and Villanova 115-51 after one day of action. The squad picked up wins in both relays as Melanie Busch, Alexa Hamilton, Megan Lafferty and Carolyn Fittin won the 200 medley (1:44.19) and Busch, Ginny Glover, Fittin and Lafferty captured the 200 free (1:34.86).

Individual winners for the Terps included Lafferty in the 100 fly (55.09), Jessica Whelan in the 1-meter dive (268.80), Glover in the 100 free (51.12), and Hamilton in the 100 breast (1:04.08).

Victoria Cassidy led the Terps in the 1650 free (17:02.66) with a second place finish and took third in the 400 IM (4:23.21). Jennifer Roberts (55.90) and Addison Koelle (56.18) went 2-3, respectively, to follow Lafferty in the 100 fly.

On the men's side, the Terps trail Pittsburgh 93.50-73.50 after Friday's action.

First place finishers for the men included Andrew Relihan in the 400 IM (4:03.02), John Hauser in the 100 free (45.27), and David Speese in the 100 breast (56.91).

Jack Clewlow was second in the 3-meter dive (300.90). Alex Spina (16:22.33) and Matthew Tynan (16:23.90) went 2-3, respectively, in the 1650 free. Jeff Winters touched the wall second in the 100 fly (50.21) and Bradley Dillon took second in the 100 back (50.69) while freshman Kyle Madley was third (51.98). Anderson Sloan followed Speese in the 100 breast with a second place showing (57.44). Maryland kicks off day two of action Saturday at 9 a.m.
