The Maryland volleyball team (10-10, 2-7 ACC) wraps up the opening half of its ACC schedule this weekend at NC State and North Carolina.
The Terps travel to Chapel Hill on Friday for a 7 p.m. match against the Tar Heels. On Saturday, Maryland and NC State square off in Raleigh at 5 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Terps dropped a three-set match to Miami on Friday, Oct. 12 and lost to No. 12 Florida State in four sets two days later.
Freshman Mackenzie Dagostino had a strong weekend totaling 78 assists in the two matches including a career-best 43 against the Seminoles.
What's Next
The Terps travel to American on Tuesday, Oct. 23 for their last non-conference match of the regular season. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bender Arena.

Scouting the Terps
The Terps are one of the more efficient and effective offenses in the ACC as they reach the midpoint of the conference schedule. In ACC matchups, the Terps are fourth in assists per set (12.27) and kills per set (13.39), and rank fifth in hitting percentage (.204).
Individually, sophomore Ashleigh Crutcher continues to be the top hitter for the Terps. Crutcher is averaging 3.70 kills per set in conference play, which ranks third in the league, and is second in total kills (122).
Middle blocker Adreené Elliott is on pace to become Maryland's all-time single-season hitting percentage leader. The sophomore is converting 40.4 percent of her attack opportunities, which ranks 13th nationally, and has knocked down 38.3 percent of her attack opportunities in ACC action, which is fifth best in the conference.
With senior Remy McBain playing in a more offensive role last weekend, freshman Mackenzie Dagostino served as the primary setter. Dagostino averaged 11.14 assists per set in two matches against No. 12 Florida State and Miami. The Tampa, Fla., native now is 10th in the conference with a 6.73 assist per set average against ACC foes.
Since beginning the conference schedule, freshman Emily Fraik has become a potent server for the Terps. With a 0.38 per set average, Fraik ranks third in the league in service aces.
Scouting the Wolfpack
The Wolfpack begin the weekend coming off two four-set victories over Virginia and Virginia Tech, and have won 12 of their last 14 matches. The Wolfpack will take on Boston College in Raleigh on Friday before meeting the Terps on Saturday.
NC State has been stingy on the defensive side of the net so far in ACC play. The Wolfpack are holding opponents to .161 hitting, which is third-best in the conference, and are third in the ACC with 16.57 digs per set and fourth in the ACC with 2.54 blocks per set.
Brie Merriwether has been the Wolfpack's go-to hitter. Against ACC opponents, Merriwether is averaging 2.94 kills per set and is converting 30 percent of her attack opportunities, which ranks eighth and 10th in the league, respectively.
Alesha Wilson has also been highly efficient on the offensive side of the net. Wilson is hitting .410, which is the third-best total against ACC foes.
Megan Cyr is the Wolfpack's primary setter. In ACC play, she ranks fifth in the conference with a 9.97 assist per set average.
The combination of Alston Kearns and Wilson help keep opponents off the scoreboard. Kearns is ninth in the ACC with a 3.97 digs per set average, while Wilson averages 1.13 blocks per set, which is sixth in the conference.
Scouting the Tar Heels
The Tar Heels enter Friday night's matchup with the Terps winners of seven of their last nine matches including a five-set win over Virginia and a three-set victory over Virginia Tech last weekend.
Against ACC opponents, the Tar Heels have knocked down the second-most kills in the league (468) and are averaging 13.76 kills per set, which ranks third in the conference. The majority of those kills have been assisted as UNC is second in the ACC with a 13.03 assist per set average.
The Tar Heels have totaled 40 service aces in league play and rank fourth in the conference averaging 1.18 per set.
Emily McGee has paced the Tar Heel attack. McGee is averaging 2.85 kills per set in ACC action. McGee and the Tar Heel hitters are fed primarily by Cora Harms. Harms ranks ninth in the league averaging 7.47 assists per set.
McGee has also been strong from the service line. McGee has 11 service aces in nine conference matches and ranks sixth averaging 0.33 service aces per set.
Series History
North Carolina has won the last four meetings with Maryland and leads the all-time series 39-23. The Terps last win over the Tar Heels was at home on Nov. 13, 2009 in four sets. Maryland's last road win against UNC came on Sept. 27, 1997 in three sets.
The Terps lead the all-time series against NC State by a 43-19 margin. Maryland's .694 winning percentage against the Wolfpack is the Terps' best amongst all ACC opponents.
Maryland and NC State split last year's season series with each team winning at home. The Terps won in three sets on Sept. 25. The last time the Terps' knocked off the Wolfpack in Raleigh was on Sept. 25, 2010 in four sets.
Head Coach
Tim Horsmon
Tim Horsmon is in his fifth season in charge of the Maryland volleyball team. With the Terps' victory over Villanova on Aug. 24, Horsmon won his 50th career game at Maryland.
With Maryland's win over Virgina on Sept. 30, Horsmon now has 284 career wins.
Keep Setting Crutcher
Sophomore Ashleigh Crutcher totaled a career-high 26 kills against Virginia Tech on Sept. 28. It marked the most kills by a Terrapin since Jade Brown knocked down 27 kills against North Carolina on Nov. 25, 2006.
Running The Show
Freshman Mackenzie Dagostino took the reins as the primary setter last weekend with senior Remy McBain serving primarily as a hitter.
Dagostino averaged 11.14 assists per set in the two matches and dished out a career-high 43 assists against No. 12 Florida State.
Terrapin Milestones
With 13 kills against Virginia on Sept. 30, senior Remy McBain eclipsed the 500 kill plateau for her career. McBain currently sits at 536 kills, which is the sixth-highest total for a Terp since 2007.
With 26 assists at Wake Forest on Sunday, McBain surpassed the 3,000 assist mark. The Leonia, N.J., native has 3,034 assists over her four years in College Park. She is only the fifth Terp all-time to eclipse 3,000 assists.
Junior Mary Cushman's next assisted block will be the 100th of her career.
Honored Terps
The Terps wrapped up their pre-conference tournament schedule at LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 14-15. Sophomore Adreené Elliott came away with the highest honors. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native was voted the MVP of both the Villanova Classic and Blackbird Invitational as well as earning a spot on the Spring Hill Suites at Arundel Mills All-Tournament team.
At the Blackbird Invitational, Elliott tallied 31 kills and 23 total blocks including a career-high eight total blocks against St. John's. Elliott tied the mark with another eight total blocks against LIU Brooklyn the following night.
In three matches at the Spring Hill Suites at Arundel Mills Invitational, Elliott finished with 32 kills and a .419 hitting percentage. In the win over George Washington, Elliott had a career-high .619 hitting percentage.
Elliott took home MVP honors at the Villanova Classic to open the season. In three matches, she tallied 26 kills and 13 total blocks. Elliott finished the weekend with a .353 hitting percentage.
Junior Sarah Harper and freshman Kamrin Gold joined Elliott on the Villanova Classic All-Tournament team. Harper finished with 49 digs, while Gold tallied 18 kills including 11 against Robert Morris.
With 54 kills at the Maryland Invitational, sophomore Ashleigh Crutcher earned a spot on the Maryland Invitational All-Tournament team. Crutcher leads the Terps in kills with 158.
Junior Mary Cushman and Gold earned spots on the Blackbird Invitational All-Tournament team. In three matches, Cushman finished with 28 kills, 13 digs and six total blocks. Cushman had a season-high .480 hitting percentage against St. John's. Gold completed the weekend with 25 kills and 16 digs.
Record Watch
Sophomore Adreené Elliott is currently tied for third all-time in career hitting percentage. Elliott is hitting .314 for her career. Rachel Wagener holds the all-time record with a .341 hitting percentage.
For the season, Elliott is converting 40.4 percent of her attack opportunities. On her current pace, Elliott would become Maryland's single-season hitting percentage record holder.
On the defensive side of the net, Elliott moved past Katie Usher for ninth all-time in solo blocks after tallying one against No. 12 Florida State on Sunday. Elliott is two solo blocks shy of passing Jaime Summers for eighth all-time.
Junior Sarah Harper moved past Maria DiLivio (1,002) into eighth all-time in Maryland history in digs against LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 15. With 1,117 digs, Harper trails Bethany Springer by 87 digs for seventh all-time.
Senior Remy McBain ranks fifth in program history with 3,034 assists. She trails Aimee Huddleston by 536 assists for fourth all-time.
Fresh Faces
The Terps welcomed seven newcomers to the squad this season. The seven-member class was given highest honorable mention honors by PrepVolleyball.com.
So far this season, all seven freshmen have seen action for the Terps, which is the most in the ACC.
Mackenzie Dagostino and Kamrin Gold have been staples in the Terrapin attack. Dagostino is averaging 6.03 assists per set, while Gold is averaging 2.42 kills per set.
Emily Fraik totaled a career-high eight kills in the Terps' win over Virginia on Sept. 30 and ranks third in the conference with 0.38 service aces per set in league action.
