CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Maryland gymnastics team scored a season-high 48.950 on vault, but North Carolina turned in sensational performances on beam and floor to beat the Terps (6-5, 2-2 EAGL) Friday night at Carmichael Arena, 195.225-192.700.

In addition to Maryland's season high on vault, junior Briana Melander scored a career high on beam, but it was not enough to knock off the Tar Heels on their home floor for the second time in a week.

"There were some really bright spots in tonight's performance," said head coach Brett Nelligan. "I thought we came out very strong on the first two events. We had the lead at the halfway point, but just weren't able to put it away."

After recording a season high on vault last week, the Terps continued their impressive performance on the apparatus. Maryland scored a season-best 48.950 led by junior Ally Krikorian who scored a 9.900 to win the event for the second week in a row.

Maryland opened the meet on bars and tallied four of the top-six scores. Sophomore Karen Tang was the Terps' top performer with a 9.750 to place third. Junior Kesley Cofsky and sophomores Jessie Black and Katy Dodds tied for fourth with a 9.700.

After Dodds tallied a 9.800 on floor to finish fourth and pace the Terps, Melander scored a career-high 9.825 on beam to tie for second.

Rutgers, West Virginia and William & Mary visit College Park next Saturday for a 7 p.m. meet.
