CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Sophomore Cristina Stancu defeated 18th-ranked Anna Bartenstein of Miami for her second victory over a top-20 opponent this spring, but the No. 5 Hurricanes knocked off the No. 69 Maryland women's tennis team, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

In the final match of the afternoon, 31st-ranked Stancu rebounded from an opening-set loss to force a third set with 6-2 victory in the second. Stancu and Bartenstein played a back-and-forth final set that concluded with a 7-5 tiebreaker in favor of the Romanian. The win is Stancu's 20th of the year and 12th of the season. The sophomore is 7-4 against ranked opponents.

After the Hurricanes swept doubles, sophomore Welma Luus earned the Terps other victory of the match at the No. 5 position when Melissa Bolivar retired due to injury with Luus leading, 5-4, in the first set.

Maryland (6-11, 0-7 ACC) returns to College Park this weekend for the final two home matches of the season against Wake Forest and NC State. The Terps face the Demon Deacons Thursday, April 5 at 2 p.m., and take on the Wolfpack Sunday, April 8 at noon. Both matches will be played at the Cole Field House Tennis Courts.
