COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The 10th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team will trek to Blacksburg, Va. this weekend to take on Virginia Tech Sunday at 2 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.
The Terps-Hokies game will be broadcast on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network and can be heard on UMTerps.com for a fee or AM 1300.
The Terrapins (12-3, 3-1 ACC) are coming off of their second straight win over a ranked team, an 84-62 victory over No. 24 Miami Thursday night in College Park. Freshman Chloe Pavlech led the way with 20 points, Tianna Hawkins added 18 and 11 boards and Alyssa Thomas scored 18 as well. Freshman Malina Howard notched 10 points.
Virginia Tech (7-8, 1-3) has lost three straight. Most recently, the Hokies fell to Boston College, 53-46, Thursday.
Maryland owns the all-time series, 8-6, but the Hokies won the last meeting. Virginia Tech beat Maryland, 75-69, on Jan. 26, 2012, in College Park. Laurin Mincy scored 19, Tianna Hawkins had 18 points and Alyssa Thomas sat out with a hand injury.
The Terps lead the nation in rebounding with their margin of +17.7. Currently, Hawkins and Thomas are tied to lead the ACC in rebounds with 10.1 per game apiece. Hawkins leads the league in offensive boards with 4.6 per game and Thomas leads in defensive boards with 7.4. Hawkins is the conference's leading scorer with 18.9 points per game and Thomas is fifth with her 15.4 points per contest.
After Sunday's contest, the Terrapins will return home to host North Carolina State (8-8, 0-4) Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at Comcast Center. Thursday's game will be Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, so all campus faculty and staff members can claim up to four free tickets prior to game day by calling the Terrapin Ticket Office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
