GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Maryland midfielder Katie Schwarzmann and goalkeeper Kasey Howard have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, announced Tuesday.
Schwarzmann moved up to No. 5 on Maryland's all-time goals list (180) with a career-high seven goals in a 19-11 win at No. 2 Syracuse Sunday.
The native of Sykesville, Md., added three draw controls and converted on 7-of-8 shots, helping the Terrapins avenge a one-goal loss last season that snapped a 36-game winning streak at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. It is the fourth offensive player of the week honor for Schwarzmann and fifth weekly award overall.
The reigning Tewaaraton winner was also tabbed Nike National Player of the Week.
Howard, in only her second collegiate start, registered 11 saves on 28 shots to lead the defense in holding the second-ranked Orange on Sunday. The senior from Annapolis, Md., got off to a quick start, registering three early saves in unfamiliar territory at the Carrier Dome.
Maryland welcomes Duke Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
