COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland scored eight runs in its last two at-bats to break open a one-run game and defeat George Mason, 13-4, Wednesday night at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium. The Terrapin's 13 runs tied a season high, which the squad set at James Madison on Feb. 25.

The Terps (25-15) finished with 11 hits to go along with eight hit-by-pitches, two shy of the NCAA single-game record, and three walks to bounce back from a defeat at West Virginia on Tuesday. First baseman LaMonte Wade led the offensive charge totaling a career-best four hits and scoring three runs and driving in two.

"I was just glad our guys were able to come out and perform pretty well coming off a rough night and road trip like that [on Tuesday],” said head coach John Szefc. “That was a really good thing for us. You want to try to feel good about yourselves going into an important weekend series."

Starter Zach Morris, making his third start in a Terrapin uniform, improved to 2-0 after scattering five hits over five innings allowing two runs and striking out three. Morris showed significant poise early in the game working out of jams in the first and second innings and left seven Mason (22-15) runners stranded over his five innings.

"Morris was pretty efficient,” said Szefc. “That's what we needed. We needed that to get it going. That was a big part of the win today."

The Terps put three runs on the board in the bottom of the first to answer the Patriots' run in the top of the inning. Charlie White scored Maryland's first run following a throwing error by Mason starter Evan Porcella. With White standing at second, Wade laid down a bunt towards third and reached first as Porcella's throw sailed behind him allowing White to score and moving Brandon Lowe to third.

Lowe scored on the next at-bat as a throw from Mason first baseman Mick Foley sailed into left in attempt to putout Wade who was scrambling back to second. Nick Cieri then drove in Wade with a single to center.

Wade answered a Mason run in the second with his first RBI of the night on a single to right to plate Michael Montville, who started the frame with a single. The Terps then took a 5-2 lead in the fourth on a RBI fielder's choice from White.

George Mason trimmed the Maryland lead to one in the sixth on a Brandon Gum double that scored two. But in the bottom of the seventh, Wade tallied his second RBI with another single to right this time scoring White from second. Four batters later, Mike Rescigno singled to center scoring Wade and Blake Schmit to extend the Terrapin advantage to four.

In the eighth, the Terps scored runs on a hit-by-pitch, a wild pitch and a bases loaded walk to go along with a fielder's choice RBI from Kevin Martir. In total, Maryland scored five runs on one hit and one error during the inning to seal the win.

Maryland next travels to Chestnut Hill to begin a weekend series against Boston College Friday at 2:30 p.m.
