GREENSBORO, N.C. - Four Terrapins were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team for women's lacrosse, announced by league commissioner John Swofford on Monday.
Megan Douty, Brooke Griffin, Halle Majorana and Zoe Stukenberg were all tagged to the list. It is the second career honor for Douty, Griffin and Majorana and the first for the freshman Stukenberg.
Douty was the IWLCA National Defender of the Year and a Tewaaraton finalist in 2014. The kinesiology major anchored a Maryland defense that held opponents to single-digit scoring in 17 of 23 games in 2014. Douty was also tagged ACC Defender of the Year.
An IWLCA First Team All-American, Griffin helped quarterback the Terrapins' dynamic attack with 86 points in 2014. The kinesiology major boasted 62 goals and 24 assists and was tabbed ACC Championship Most Valuable Player after guiding the Terps to wins against Virginia Tech, Virginia and Syracuse in the ACC tournament.
Majorana, a sophomore letters & science major, appeared in 20 games and made seven starts in 2014. She recorded 20 goals and 14 assists and also posted six ground balls, one draw control and three caused turnovers.
Stukenberg was named ACC Co-Freshman of the Year after shining for the Terrapins in her first season in College Park. The biological sciences major posted 47 points on 35 goals and 12 assists and added 21 ground balls and 23 draw controls as a rookie.
All eight of the league's women's lacrosse programs are represented on the All-ACC Academic Team, led by Syracuse with seven selections. Duke and Virginia followed each with five student-athletes on team, while Boston College, Maryland and North Carolina each placed four on the team, Notre Dame had three and Virginia Tech two.
Syracuse senior attacker Alyssa Murray was named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
