#2 Maryland Falls at #14 Louisville, 1-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. The No. 2 Maryland men's soccer team dropped its first match of the season Friday night, falling to No. 14 Louisville 1-0 at the grand opening of the Cards' new home venue Lynn Stadium.

After a back-and-forth first half, Louisville (1-0) notched the lone score of the match with an Andrew Brody tally in the 54th minute. After a nice serve from Ricardo Velazco from the near sideline, Brody found the upper right corner for the header and the Cards' first goal in Lynn Stadium history.

The first half featured three shots apiece for both squads including one each by Mael Corboz, David Kabelik and Eric Carbajal. Corboz capped the game with a team-high three attempts.

Maryland (0-1) continued to press for the remainder of the match, including a great look by Tsubasa Endoh which was saved with 10 minutes left in the contest. The Terps outshot the Cards 10-7 on the night, including a 7-4 advantage in the second half.

“First I'd like to congratulate Louisville for an outstanding night. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to play tonight in the opening game,” head coach Sasho Cirovski said. “I thought it was a very good game. I thought Louisville scored a nice goal in the counterattack and we came up a little bit short in our execution in the final third. Louisville won the game and the University of Louisville had a big night for college soccer and for that we are grateful to be a part of it.”

It's the first time Maryland has been shut out in a match since a 0-0 tie at Seton Hall Sept. 20, 2011. The Terps haven't been shut out in a loss since Dec. 4, 2009.

Maryland returns to action Monday with a 7 p.m. tilt with No. 17 Coastal Carolina at Ludwig Field.
