ROSEMONT, Ill. – Opposite hitter Angel Gaskin was tabbed as the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week the conference announced Monday afternoon. Gaskin earned Maryland volleyball's first-ever player of the week honor since joining the Big Ten.

The Tampa, Fla., native posted a strong outing against top-ranked Penn State last week, notching 11 kills on a .381 clip and two blocks as the Terps challanged the Nittany Lions in four sets. Gaskin helped lead Maryland to an upset win over No. 12 Ohio State Friday, setting a career high with five blocks and adding five kills on .214 hitting. Gaskin combined with Ashlyn MacGregor for the match-winning block in the third set.

Gaskin ranks third on the Terps in kills per set. She shares the freshman of the week honors with Minnesota's Samantha Seliger-Swenson.

The Terps continue their daunting conference schedule with No. 16 Purdue Wednesday at 6 p.m. and No. 8 Nebraska Saturday at 7 p.m. in the XFINITY Center Pavilion.
