CONWAY, S.C. - Postgame quotes following Maryland's 5-2 win over Old Dominion Saturday.
Junior LaMonte Wade
On his go-ahead two-run single:
“He got out in front of me 0-2. I knew he was going to come back with the curveball. I saw it up and was able to put a good swing on it and was able to come through.”
On the team's clutch hits:
“When we're down, we know we're not out of the game at any point because we have the lineup to come back. We just have to believe in one another and come through and get those two out RBI hits like [Anthony] Papio was able to do. That was huge.”
On Kevin Mooney:
“He just brings toughness each and every day. We know that when he goes out there, he can get the job done. We can always rely on Mooney to get the job done.”
On the rope celebration:
“Every time someone hits a double, we pull the rope and the dugout comes out. It's just to get energy and keep people in the game.”
Head Coach John Szefc
On the most impressive aspect of the three wins:
“I wouldn't say anything really surprised me because we had a lot of guys do what we think they should do. I think our bullpen was tremendous today. [Bobby] Ruse was tremendous in the first game. In the second game, the combination of [Zach] Morris, [Alex] Robinson and Mooney was outstanding. They gave our offense a chance to get back into it. We made zero errors as a team and we gave up zero big innings which is huge when you talk about winning games.”
On the pitching staff:
“They were the difference. In the first game, you had Ruse and [Rob] Galligan come in with the bases loaded and give up one run between the two of them. And in [the second] game, outside of the wind-blown home run Zach [Morris] gave up, the bullpen was perfect. Those guys were awesome. What Jimmy [Belanger] is doing with those guys, you can't say enough about it.”
On the difference between this year's team and last year's team:
“I think we have a lot of experience. I think there's a lot of confidence in there. These guys have had a lot of success before, not that last year's team didn't. You have a lot of guys that have been through a lot of wars. They're used to coming from behind. To get down is not as big of an issue as it has been in the past. The experience thing, it's an intangible thing that you can't really put a price tag on.”
