COLLEGE PARK, MD - The No. 43 Maryland women's tennis team improved its 2015 season record to 9-5 by sweeping Morgan State, 7-0, Monday afternoon at the Tennis Center at College Park.
The Terps started the afternoon off strong by winning the doubles point in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Alexandra Stanova and Welma Luus gained advantage for Maryland by defeating Morgan State pair Chelsi Russell and Danielle Thompson, 8-3.
The doubles point was clinched by Maryland with an 8-5 win from Ekaterina Tour and Olivia Gaudreault over Cierra Plummer and Kayla Price.
In singles, Maryland continued to dominate Morgan State by winning every match in two straight sets. Stanova and Luus continued to win as they claimed victory Russell 6-1, 6-0, and Thompson 6-1, 6-0.
In the No. 3 position, Olga Bredikhina edged out Plummer 6-0, 6-1, while at the No. 4 position Gaudreault won over Price 6-3, 6-2. Cassandre Thebault moved up into the No. 5 position and stamped out Jasmine Edwards by a score of 6-0, 6-3. To finish up the Maryland sweep, Olga Gaistruk defeated Riana Roberts 6-2, 6-1.
Maryland resumes conference play on Saturday against Penn state at the Tennis Center at College. Action is schedule to start at 11 a.m.
