ROSEMONT, Ill. – Taylor Cummings and Megan Whittle each picked up Big Ten weekly awards after helping the No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team move to 16-0 on the season. The conference announced the plaudits Monday afternoon.

Cummings earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors after picking up 15 draw controls and three ground balls and causing two turnovers in a two wins last week. In a win over then-No. 18 Johns Hopkins, Cummings tallied 11 draw controls, two ground balls and caused one turnover. She recorded four draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover against Michigan.

Cummings also contributed offensively as she posted five goals and three assists in two games. In conference play, she currently leads the Big Ten with 6.50 draw controls per game.

This is the Ellicott City, Md., native's first Defensive Player of the Week honor. Cummings has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week four times.

Whittle earned her sixth Freshman of the Week honors of the season. She recorded her eighth and ninth hat tricks of the season in wins over Johns Hopkins and Michigan. Whittle scored all three goals against Michigan in the final 1:17 of the first half. She is currently tied for first in the Big Ten with 3.50 goals per game.

Penn State's Steph Lazo earned Offensive Player of the Week honors while Cummings shares her defensive honors with the Nittany Lions' Emi Smith.

The No. 1 Terps (16-0, 4-0 B1G) host No. 8 Penn State (12-3, 4-0) Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will decide the winner of the Big Ten regular-season title. The Maryland-Nittany Lions matchup will be aired on the Big Ten Network.
