Maryland Takes Texas for a Pair of Matches

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After a 3-1-0 start the Maryland women's soccer team returns to action this weekend has it heads to Texas for a pair of matches. The Terps face off with TCU at 8 p.m. on Friday before taking on SMU at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Quick Hits

• Maryland enters this weekend's contests after a 1-0 win over La Salle on Sunday.

• This weekend will mark the Terrapins' first meetings with TCU and SMU. 

• Senior goalkeeper Rachelle Beanlands is expected to make her 63rd start in goal on Friday, which would tie her for third with Ali Wolff (1997-99, 2001) on the all-time list. She has logged 5,739 minutes, good enough for third in Maryland history.

• Beanlands holds a 1.08 goals against average for her career. That sits at fourth in program history.

• Top Drawer Soccer named Beanlands an honorable mention selection for its Team of the Week on Monday. The Canadian notched six saves against West Virginia before shutting out La Salle on Sunday.

• Beanlands' has combined with Maryland's stout backline to allow just one goal this year, which ranks second in the Big Ten.

• Sophomore forward Alex Anthony has scored three of the Terps for goals so far this season, topping her total from last season. Anthony's tally 13 seconds into the match against Navy represented the fastest goal in Maryland soccer history and t-20 in NCAA women's soccer history. 

•  Anthony leads the Big Ten in shots with 28.

•  Maryland has recorded 16 or more shots in three of four games this year.

•  Freshman midfielder Cassie Phillips made her first career start against La Salle. Phillips has logged 153 minutes, the most of Maryland's six newcomers. 

•  Senior defender Shannon Collins notched the game winning goal in Maryland's 1-0 win over La Salle. It was Collins first goal since Oct. 1 2012 against Boston College.

Six Named to Leadership Group 

• Head coach Jonathan Morgan announced his six-member leadership group for the 2015 season on Aug. 4.

• Seniors Sarah Fichtner, Shannon Collins, Erika Nelson, Rachelle Beanlands, Riley Barger and sophomore Alex Anthony make up the unit.

Terrapin Goal Club

• The Terrapin Goal Club is a simple, yet fun way to support the Maryland Soccer program. It will add to an already exciting upcoming season.

• As a member, you will agree to donate a specific dollar amount for every goal scored and shutout during the 2015 season (# of goals or shutouts x pledge= total donation). Supporters may also choose to double their pledge for goals or shutouts during post-season play.
• All of the donations to the TERRAPIN GOAL CLUB will go towards special needs and projects above and beyond the operating budget. Donations to the TERRAPIN GOAL CLUB may qualify for a tax deduction (please consult your tax adviser for specific details).
