ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Junior Chelsea Jackson scored her team leading ninth goal of the season, but the Maryland women's soccer team fell, 3-1, at U-M Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Terrapins (3-9-1, 1-4 Big Ten) fell behind 3-0, before Jackson's goal brought the deficit back to two late in the second half. With her goal, the junior is now tied for the Big Ten lead in goals and is second in points (20).

The two teams played a fairly even opening first 20 minutes before Michigan got on the board in the 23rd minute through a Jackie White goal.

Maryland's best chance of the first half came in the 30th minute when a rebound squirted out to Jackson at the top of the box. With the keeper off her line, Jackson fired toward goal, but was just off target.

Michigan doubled its lead just before halftime when Emma Grofsky finished off a Reilly Martin ball. Martin made the score 3-0 in the 50th minute, slotting home a loose ball at the top of the six.

From there, the Terrapins fought hard to keep the Wolverines at bay, including a fantastic block from senior Hope Gouterman. The away side put one away in the 79th minute. Junior Marisa Knott sent in a corner to the back post that Jackson calmly put away.

With a combined 17 goals this season, Jackson and sophomore Jarena Harmon are the top scoring duo in the Big Ten and have matched last season's goal total from Maryland's entire squad.

The Terrapins return to action Thursday against Ohio State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the action can be seen live on BTN Plus.
