Toliver, Sparks Win WNBA Title

COLLEGE PARK, Md.  - Former Terrapin Kristi Toliver and the Los Angeles Sparks won the 2016 WNBA title Thursday with a thrilling 77-76 win over the Minnesota Lynx in Game 5 of the Finals.

Toliver contributed eight points, including a key three down the stretch, and four assists in the victory.

She averaged 11.2 points per game in the five-game series with 14 assists. Toliver scord 13.2 points per game this season and shot 42.4 percent from outside the arc.

Since she was drafted third overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2009 WNBA Draft, Toliver has had a long and successful professional career. In 2012, she was named the WNBA's Most Improved Player, the Western Conference Player of the Month (August) and to the All-WNBA Team. She's racked up three Western Conference Player of the Week honors and was a WNBA All-Star in 2013.

Fifteen Maryland women's basketball alums have gone on to play in the WNBA and seven were top 10 WNBA draft picks.
