COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's soccer team dropped its conference showdown with Ohio State, 4-0, at Ludwig Field Thursday night.

The Terrapins (3-10-1, 1-5-0 Big Ten) gave up a pair of goals in the opening five minutes and were unable to capitalize on a few chances to get back into the match. Ohio State tacked on two goals in the final 45 minutes to seal the victory.

Lindsay Agnew put the Buckeyes ahead in the second minute, tapping in a rebound from Terrapin goalkeeper Katelyn Jensen's initial save. The lead was doubled just over a minute later when Emma Firenze tallied from 17 yards out off a corner kick.

The Terps' first opportunity came in the ninth minute. Top goal scorers junior Chelsea Jackson and sophomore Jarena Harmon had space in the box, but could not get clean shots away.

In the 16th minute, junior Madison Turner fired wide after finding some space on the right side of the box after Harmon played her in with a nice through ball.

Freshman Jlon Flippens saw her dangerous free kick deflect off an Ohio State defender and go off the post in the 30th minute.

Sammy Edwards scored twice in a three minute span early in the second half to give the Buckeyes a 3-0 lead.

With 28 minutes left, Harmon and Turner combined nicely on the right side before Turner's ultimate cross into the middle was just out of Jackson's reach.

Sophomore Cassie Phillips let fly from the top of the box with just over six minutes remaining, but her shot was saved.

Maryland returns to Ludwig Field for a match with Penn State Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The contest can be seen live on BTN Plus.
