ROSEMONT, Ill. – Freshman Destiny Slocum of the fifth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (4-0) was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Monday for her first career weekly honor. Senior Brionna Jones was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll for the sixth time in her career.
Slocum averaged 14.3 points with 4.7 assists in the Terrapins' three wins on the week. She shot 54.2 percent (13-24) from the field and 50.0 percent (9-18) from outside the arc.
In Sunday's game at Niagara, Slocum led the Terrapins with 25 points off five three-pointers and dished seven assists in the win.
Jones averaged 68.8 percent from the field with 17.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals on the week. She picked up her first double-double of the year and 24th of her career vs. Mount St. Mary's with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The Terrapins are ranked No. 6 in the latest Associated Press poll and No. 5 in the USA Today Division I Coaches poll.
Next, the Terrapins will travel to Las Vegas to play in the South Point Shootout at the South Point Hotel & Casino. Maryland will play No. 18/16 Arizona State (2-1) Friday at 4 p.m. ET and Washington State (3-1) Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
