storylines

Melo Trimble scored 27 points, freshman Justin Jackson added 21 and Maryland rallied in the closing minutes to beat Towson 71-66 Sunday in the 250th game played at XFINITY Center.

• After hitting a single-game, career-best 16 free throws on Sunday against Towson, Melo Trimble moved into the top 10 and now sits at No. 8 all-time in career free throws made. He needs 16 to pass Terrapin legend Tom McMillen for seventh. The Terps are 25-4 when Trimble gets to the line at least seven times.

• Senior Damonte Dodd needs two blocks to reach 100 in his four-year career at Maryland. Dodd posted a career-high 51 as a sophomore in 2014-15 and has a team-best eight this season, including four in a win over neighborhood-rival Georgetown (Nov. 15).

• Maryland's freshman class continues to turn heads. Anthony Cowan, Kevin Huerter and Justin Jackson have started the past two games and Cowan and Huerter became the first freshman duo to start in a Maryland season-opener since Joe Smith and Keith Booth on Nov. 26, 1993 vs. Georgetown when the pair started in a win against American on Nov. 11 to kick off the 2016-17 campaign. Cowan, Huerter and Jackson have combined for 117 of Maryland's 302 points and 69 of its 162 rebounds. Cowan leads all players with 15 assists, Jackson is tops in rebounds (30) and boasts a squad-best nine treys.

• This is the third meeting between the two programs with Maryland winning the first two. The Terps topped the Seawolves, 76-69, on Dec. 21, 2012 in the last meeting between the two teams. Head coach Jeff Boals is in his first season with Stony Brook after serving as an assistant coach at Ohio State since 2009.
