Terps Rout Princeton, 17-5

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Maryland men's lacrosse team used 12 different goal scorers, including a four-point effort from New Jersey native Pat Young, to rout Princeton, 17-5, with a complete victory Saturday afternoon.

Young led the way with two goals and two assists, while Colin Heacock (3G), Connor Kelly (3G, 1A) and Lucas Gradinger (1G, 2A) helped propel the Terrapin offense on 44 percent shooting for the game. The Maryland defense was just as strong, holding the Tigers to 18 percent shooting and five goals.

Maryland (3-2) wasted little time establishing its presence, as freshman Austin Henningsen scored his first career goal seven seconds into the game and Matt Rambo followed less than a minute later with a goal of his own. Gradinger then finished a feed from Rambo to put the Terps ahead, 3-0, before Princeton got on the scoreboard with a goal of its own.

That sparked a four-goal Maryland run as Dylan Maltz, Heacock, Young and Kelly each found the back of the net to put the Terps ahead, 7-1. Maryland's first five shots of the game all went for goals.

Ryan Ambler got one back for Princeton at 13:21 of the second quarter, before the Terps closed the half with four more goals from Kelly, Heacock, Tim Rotanz and Maltz.

Maryland's 11 first half goals were the most since scoring 12 against Robert Morris on April 2, 2014.

The second half was much of the same for Maryland, as Henry West scored his first of the season 1:04 into the frame. The Terps also added goals from Young, Isaiah Davis-Allen, Heacock, Timothy Monahan (first career) and Josh Reinson to cap the scoring.

All-American goalie Kyle Bernlohr was tremendous in net with nine saves and four goals allowed, while junior Tim Muller picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Dan Morris played the entire fourth quarter in net for the Terps, making one save.

Maryland will take a brief break before returning to Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium Wednesday against Albany as it welcomes one of the nation's top offenses at 6 pm. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
