#1 Terps Take Down Michigan, 18-8

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Led by a balanced offense, the No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team (16-0, 4-0 B1G) defeated Michigan, 3-10, 0-4), 18-8, Saturday afternoon.

Four Terps notched four points against the Wolverines, including sophomore attacker Megan Whittle (3G, 1A), junior midfielder Zoe Stukenberg (3G, 1A), freshman attacker Caroline Steele (3G, 1A) and Caroline Wannen (1G, 3A).  Senior midfielder Bryn Boucher and freshman midfielder Jen Giles each posted two goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Taylor Cummings scored twice.

Maryland clinched at least a share of the Big Ten regular season title with the win.

Whittle scored first at 27:21 off an assist from Boucher. Wannen found Kacie Longo with a backdoor pass at 24:02. After a Michigan goal, Whittle scored her second on a crossbody shot at 21:02 as the Terps led 3-1.

Steele scored her first at 18:03 and her second off a Giles assist at 16:25. Boucher tallied a goal on a no-look shot at 15:07 and Stukenberg pushed the lead to 7-1 at 14:50.

After Giles scored at 10:36, the Wolverines notched three straight goals.  Wannen notched a man-up goal at 6:30 to break the streak. Stukenberg found Cummings for a goal at 6:09. Michigan scored once more before the Terps used a 5-0 run to push the lead to 15-5 at halftime.

Steele assisted to Boucher for the first goal of the second half. Whittle completed her hat trick at 25:37 and Stukenberg scored off a backdoor pass from Wannen at 21:50 as the Terps led 18-5.

Michigan scored three goals in the last 11:10 but Maryland took the win, 18-8.

Junior defender Nadine Hadnagy caused three turnovers while senior defender Alice Mercer and Steele each caused two. Cummings finished the game with 10 draw controls.   

In four conference games this season, the Terps have outscored opponents 68-20.

The Terps close the regular season at No. 16 Penn State next Thursday, April 28. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
