EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Maryland women's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Friday, falling to #51 Illinois in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament, 4-1.
The fifth-seeded Terps (10-12) picked up their lone win of the day at No. 3 singles where Kristina Hovsepyan topped Alexis Casati in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-2).
The fourth-seeded Illini (15-8) grabbed the doubles point and earned wins at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to advance to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
Despite the loss, Maryland made strides during its second season in the Big Ten. The Terps saw a three-win improvement in conference play and reached the league tournament for the first time.
