Terps Split Twin-Bill With Red Flash

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Skylynne Ellazar went 4-7 with three runs as the Terps split a midweek doubleheader with the Saint Francis Red Flash.

Maryland used a balanced approach to take game one by a score of 6-3, before dropping game two 7-3.

Chickamauga, Ga. native Brenna Nation led the Terps in the circle, throwing 7.1 innings and allowing three earned runs.

GAME ONE

Brenna Nation tossed a complete game, four hitter in the circle to lead Maryland to a 6-3 win over the Red Flash in game one.

Three Terrapin batters: Sarah Calta, Skylynne Ellazar, and Jordan Aughinbaugh picked up two hits.

It was all Sarah Calta in the first inning. The junior captain led the game off with a single through the left side, advanced to second on a passed ball, and then to third and home on a wild pitch. Kylie Datil later reached on an error to score Skylynne Ellazar for the second run.

The Red Flash got one of the Terrapins two first inning runs back in the second, off a double, illegal pitch, and sacrifice fly.

Maryland immediately got that run back as Jordan Aughinbaugh lined a double and Sarah Calta bunted a single. The Terrapins used a second Red Flash error to plate run number three.

Brenna Nation had an effective outing in the circle; the redshirt junior went all seven innings, allowing two earned runs and four hits while striking out four.

Three straight two out walks with the bases loaded gave the Terrapins insurance runs in the fifth inning. After Skylynne Ellazar and Hannah Dewey singled to start the inning, Kylie Datil walked to load the bases. Jordan Aughinbaugh, Corey Schwartz, and Sarah Calta produced RBI walks to give the Terps a 6-2 lead.

Saint Francis picked up a run in the sixth inning but their rally wasn't enough as the Terps held on for a 6-3 win.

GAME TWO

The Red Flash erupted for seven runs in the middle innings as the Terrapins fell 7-3 in the nightcap of the double dip.

It was a pitchers duel through three innings as Maryland's Hannah Dewey and St. Francis' Alexis Bower traded jabs at the opponents lineups; only allowing two hits combined through the first three frames.

The Red Flash broke through in the fourth and fifth innings however, scoring a combined seven runs on seven hits and one Terrapin error.

Brenna Nation relieved Dewey in the circle in the fifth and then Madison Martin relieved Nation. Martin closed the game out, hurling 2.2 innings and only allowing one hit while striking out three.

Trailing 7-0, Maryland grabbed one run back in each the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. In the fifth, Lindsey Schmeiser and Skylynne Ellazar knocked back to back hits. Hannah Dewey then brought Schmeiser in with a RBI groundout. The following inning, Maryland scored off a Red Flash error for the third time on the day. In the last inning, Skylynne Ellazar and Hannah Dewey gave Maryland second and third with no outs, and then Jordan Aughinbaugh brought Ellazar in. The final score would be 7-3.

The Terrapins will wrap up their eight game home stand this weekend with a three-game set against Michigan State at the Maryland Softball Stadium.  The series opener will take place Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.
