COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland Athletics Department celebrated graduation day with several senior student-athletes and their family and friends as part of Wednesday's Spring Commencement ceremony. A reception was held prior to the main ceremony as Maryland student-athletes prepared for a memorable day.
"This is a very special day as we are excited to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of our student-athletes," said director of athletics Kevin Anderson. "We congratulate each of our student-athletes and their families and thank them for their commitment to our University."
A total of 85 student-athletes from 18 sports teams earned their degrees Wednesday.
“This is one of the most exciting days of the year for the student-athletes, their families, the coaches, the ASCDU and ICA staff as we get to celebrate our graduates," said Chris Uchacz, associate director of athletics and director of the Academic Services & Career Development Unit. "The time and effort that goes into earning a University of Maryland diploma is immense and we are very proud to have been able to serve our student-athletes throughout this process.”
"It means a lot to earn my degree from the University of Maryland," said Brionna Jones, an All-American on the women's basketball team. "I am so fortunate to have had the support I did here at Maryland to not only graduate, but to earn my degree in just three years.”
