#1 Terps, #15 Wildcats to Meet in B1G Championship

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The top-seeded Maryland women's lacrosse team (18-0) takes on third-seeded Northwestern (10-8) in the Big Ten Tournament championship game Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Terps rout rutgers, advance to b1g finals

  • Using a balanced attack, the No. 1-seeded Terps defeated Rutgers, 19-9, Friday evening in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
  • Senior midfielder Taylor Cummings (3G, 2A) and junior attacker Caroline Wannen (2G, 3A) led the Terps offensively with five points each. Junior midfielder Zoe Stukenberg, sophomore attacker Megan Whittle and sophomore attacker Taylor Hensh each scored hat tricks against the Scarlet Knights while freshman attacker Caroline Steele added two.
  • The Terps finished the game 5-for-7 on free-position shots. Maryland held a 20-9 advantage in draw controls.
  • Stukenberg set a new career high with five draw controls, including four straight to start the game.

Six terps unanimously named all-big ten

terps claim big ten regular season title

  • Maryland fought back in a tough battle with Penn State to claim the Big Ten regular season title last week with a 10-9 win.
  • The Terps finished the regular season with a 17-0 record, the second straight year Maryland has posted an unblemished regular season. Maryland has gone undefeated in the regular season eight previous times and advanced to the national championship game in each year.
  • The Terps claimed the regular season title for their second straight season in the Big Ten.

Steele named b1g freshman of the week

  • After helping the Terps to a 10-9 win over Penn State last week, Caroline Steele was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Tuesday.
  • Steele scored a first-half hat trick on three shots against the Nittany Lions.

Scouting the northwestern wildcats

  • The Wildcats defeated Penn State, 9-6, on Friday to advance to the finals. Kaleigh Craig led Northwestern with three goals and Mallory Weisse made 10 saves in cage.
  • Craig leads the team with 47 goals and 59 points while Selena Lasota has 45 goals and 56 points.
  • Weisse has played every minute in goal and holds a 10.38 goals-against average and a .412 save percentage.
  • The Wildcats have won their last three games, the team's longest win streak of the season.

  • The Terps are 11-6 all-time against the Wildcats. Head coach Cathy Reese in 5-3 in her coaching career against Northwestern.

FIVE terps named tewaaraton nominees

  • An NCAA-best five members of Maryland were named to the 25-player Tewaaraton Award nominee list last week.
  • Taylor Cummings, Alice Mercer, Zoe Stukenberg, Nadine Hadnagy and Megan Whittle were all named Tewaaraton nominees. The five Terps were instrumental in helping the Terps to a 17-0 record in the regular season and the Big Ten regular season title.
  • Maryland has won five of the last six Tewaaraton Awards and six in the award's history.

no place like home

  • The Terps finished the regular season home schedule at 9-0 for 2016. The senior class moved to 42-0 in their careers in College Park.
  • Maryland is 103-2 in College Park under head coach Cathy Reese. The Terps have won all seven games in which they have played an opponent ranked No. 1 or 2 at home in the past seven seasons.
  • Maryland is currently on a 50-game win streak at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex and hasn't lost in College Park since March 10, 2012.
