Terps Earn Top Seed in NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – After going through the regular season and Big Ten Tournament undefeated, the No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament Sunday evening.

The Terps (19-0) will host Virginia (9-8) and Johns Hopkins (10-7) in the first round on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Maryland will face the winner in the second round on Sunday at noon.

The Terrapins faced both teams in the regular season this year. On April 6, Maryland defeated the Blue Jays, 10-8, in a hard-fought game. On April 20, the Terps took down Virginia, 17-6. Both games took place in College Park.

Tickets for the first and second rounds are $6 for adults and $4 for students, children and seniors. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the Terrapin Ticket Office located at the XFINITY Center, online at umterps.com or the day of the game at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Following second-round action, four quarterfinal games will be played Saturday, May 21 or Sunday, May 22, on the campuses of competing institutions. The winners of the four quarterfinal games will advance to the semifinals and final hosted by Saint Joseph's University May 27 and 29 at Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia. The semifinal games will be shown live on ESPN3 at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Eastern time, Friday, May 27. The championship game will air live on ESPNU at Noon, Sunday, May 29.

The Terps lead the nation with 32 NCAA appearances and are also tops in wins (62), championship game appearances (19) and NCAA titles (12). Maryland is making its 27th consecutive appearance in the championship (1990-2016).
