BALTIMORE - Maryland Basketball took center stage prior to the Orioles/Red Sox game Thursday as men's head coach Mark Turgeon and women's head coach Brenda Frese threw out the first pitch in front of a loud Camden Yards crowd.
The duo threw out the ceremonial first pitch as part of Maryland's trip to Oriole Park for its annual Pride Tour.
Before the first pitch, Frese, Turgeon, wrestling head coach Kerry McCoy, gymnastics head coach Brett Nelligan and student-athletes visited with fans at a pregame reception.
Turgeon is entering his sixth season at the helm of the men's basketball team after leading the Terrapins to their second consecutive NCAA Tournament and their first berth in the Sweet 16 since 2003 in 2016. The Terps finished with 27 victories marking the first time in school history the program has boasted back-to-back seasons with 27 wins or more.
In her 14 seasons in College Park, Frese has put the Maryland women's basketball program back at the top of the national stage, leading the Terps to three Final Fours, six Elite Eights, seven conference titles and the 2006 National Championship. The Terps won the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles for the second straight year during the 2015-16 campaign, boasting a record of 31-4 – the sixth time the Terps have reached the 30-win mark under Frese.
