ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten champion Maryland women's basketball team released its 2016-17 Big Ten schedule Monday and will host eight conference matchups at the XFINITY Center this season.
Coming off of their second straight Big Ten regular season and tournament titles, the Terrapins will host Northwestern, Penn State, Michigan, Rutgers, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota at the XFINITY Center. Maryland will play Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota twice.
The Terrapins will open their conference slate with a trip to Minneapolis for a New Years Day tilt with Minnesota. Three days later, they will play at Nebraska on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
Maryland will welcome Northwestern to College Park on Saturday, Jan. 7 to open their home conference slate. Penn State will make the trip south to the XFINITY Center on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
Head coach Brenda Frese will return to her home state of Iowa for a matchup with the Hawkeyes on Saturday, Jan. 14 in Iowa City. Frese grew up 28 miles from Iowa City in Cedar Rapids.
The Terps will come home for back-to-back home games vs. Michigan on Thursday, Jan. 19 and Rutgers on Sunday, Jan. 22. They will make the trip to Illinois on Thursday, Jan. 26, then will return home to host the Hawkeyes on Sunday, Jan. 29.
Maryland will open the month of February with a game at Purdue on Thursday, Feb. 2, then will play at Indiana on Sunday, Feb. 5. The Terps will host the Illini on Thursday, Feb. 9, then will travel to Michigan State for a Sunday game on Feb. 12.
Wisconsin will make the trip to College Park on Wednesday, Feb. 15, then the Terrapins will head to Ohio State on Monday, Feb. 20. Maryland will take on Minnesota on Senior Day on Sunday, Feb. 26.
The Big Ten Tournament will be played March 1-5 in Indianapolis, Ind. The NCAA Tournament will begin March 17-20 at selected campus sites. The 2017 Final Four will be March 31-April 2 in Dallas, Texas.
Since joining the Big Ten in the 2014-15 season, the Terrapins are 40-2 (.952) vs. their conference opponents. In the 14 years under Frese, the Terps are 52-6 (.897) against their Big Ten opponents and Maryland is 22-3 (.880) against Big Ten teams at home in XFINITY Center.

This year, Maryland welcomes the No. 1 freshman class in the country, featuring Kaila Charles, Stephanie Jones, Sarah Myers, Destiny Slocum, Jenna Staiti and Blair Watson. All six were McDonald's All-American nominees, with Charles, Slocum and Watson being named All-Americans.
The Terrapins earned an overall record of 31-4 last season and won both the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles for the second straight year. Returners Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough earned All-Big Ten First Team honors and WBCA Honorable Mention All-America honors.
