COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior forward Chelsea Jackson scored for the third consecutive match, but the Maryland women's soccer team fell, 5-2, to George Mason at Ludwig Field Sunday night.

The Terrapins (2-5-1) fell behind 3-0 at the half before eventually pulling within a goal with 13 minutes to play. Sophomore Jarena Harmon scored Maryland's first goal, her sixth of the season.

“The way we played was much better,” head coach Ray Leone said. “It was much quicker and much faster. It was exciting. We just can't let up goals in certain points of the game and we can correct that.”

Maryland's best opportunity of the opening 45 minutes came in the 25th minute when Harmon found herself 1-on-1 with Mason keeper Kirsten Glad. Harmon was able to get a decent shot off, but Glad parried it away.

The Patriots' goals came in a seven minute span of the first half. Alex Myers opened the scoring in the 21st minute, scoring on a half-volley from the top of the box. Erin Mitchell doubled the Mason advantage just under two minutes later when she put a header past Maryland goalkeeper Katelyn Jensen.

Sarah Hardison nodded in Mason's third tally off a Kaila Williams cross in the 28th minute.

Maryland stormed back in the second half. The Terps were gifted a golden chance in the 51st minute when the Patriots committed an illegal back pass, giving Maryland an indirect free kick. Freshman Jlon Flippens was unable to put the ball on net as it was blocked by the George Mason wall.

Harmon and Jackson both came within inches of scoring in the 64th minute, but their pair of close range efforts were cleared off the line. Harmon found Maryland's opener in the 72nd minute. Jackson beat a George Mason defender to the byline before sending in a cross that Harmon tapped into the back of the net.

Six minutes later, Jackson brought Maryland within one. Flippens sent in a free kick from 35 yards away that dropped to the Round Rock, Texas native, who slid the ball in from four yards out.

Hardison scored her second tally of the game in the 81st minute before Myers scored on a spectacular long range strike in the 85th minute to put the match away.

Maryland returns to action Friday at Rutgers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
