Maryland Named B1G Preseason Favorites

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Maryland women's lacrosse team was unanimously selected to win the Big Ten Championship in the coaches' preseason poll, as announced by the conference Monday.

The Terps have won the last two Big Ten regular season titles and are undefeated in conference play during the regular season since joining the conference in 2014. Maryland also won the 2016 Big Ten Tournament title.

Following Maryland is Penn State (2), Northwestern (3), Johns Hopkins (4), Ohio State (5), Rutgers (6) and Michigan (7). Hopkins joins the Big Ten for women's lacrosse this season.

Senior midfielder Zoe Stukenberg, senior defender Nadine Hadnagy and junior attacker Megan Whittle were named Maryland's Big Ten Players to Watch. The trio are the Terps' leaders at each position and were named Inside Lacrosse Preseason First Team All-Americans. All three were IWLCA All-Americans last season and Tewaaraton nominees.

Maryland is ranked No. 2 in the preseason IWLCA Coaches Poll and Cascade Media Poll.

The Terps open the 2017 season at William & Mary on Saturday, Feb. 11, at noon.

Maryland will host the 2017 Big Ten Women's Lacrosse Tournament at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex from May 4-7. The tournament will include the top four teams at the end of the regular season.
