storylines

• Senior center Damonte Dodd scored six points inside in a 17-6 spurt to start the second half and Maryland avoided its first four-game losing streak since the 2004-05 season with a 79-59 victory over Rutgers on Tuesday night. Dodd had all nine of his points and six of his seven rebounds in the second half for the Terrapins.

Melo Trimble led the Terps with 11 points and added a game-high seven assists. Ivan Bender and L.G. Gill added 10 points.

• Trimble notched his 28th double-figure scoring performance of the season vs. Rutgers and his 19th consecutive. With 11 points at Rutgers, Trimble became the 14th player in Maryland Basketball history to record 1,600 points. He passed Terrapin legend Ernie Graham and now sits at No. 13 with 1,609 points.

• Maryland's sensational freshman class continues to shine. Anthony Cowan boasts a team-high 37 steals and is eighth all-time in single season assists (111) for a freshman at Maryland. Justin Jackson leads the Terps on the glass, averaging 6.2 rebounds per game, and is eighth all-time in single season rebounds (187) for a freshman at Maryland, one shy of 2016 Associated Press Big Ten Freshman of the Year Diamond Stone. In addition, fellow rookie Kevin Huerter has started all 30 games for the Terps.

• Maryland will honor seniors Damonte Dodd and L.G. Gill in a pregame ceremony prior to Saturday's tip-off with Michigan State. Dodd has played all four years in College Park, helping guide the Terps to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances the past two seasons. Gill has been an integral veteran presence for the Terps this season after transferring from Duquesne.

• Maryland is looking to snap a three-game skid in the series and trails Michigan State, 6-4. The Terps' first win as a member of the Big Ten Conference came in dramatic double overtime fashion in East Lansing on Dec. 30, 2014.
