SWK to Compete in 3-Point Championship

PHOENIX – Senior Shatori Walker-Kimbrough of the Maryland women's basketball team will compete in the 2017 State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships, Intersport announced today. The 29th annual event, which will showcase the dunking and long-range shooting talents of 24 of the country's premier college basketball players, will air live on ESPN at 7 p.m. PT on March 30 from Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix.

The program consists of the Denny's Slam Dunk Championship, the Great Clips Men's 3-Point Shooting Championship, the Marine's Women's 3-Point Shooting Championship, the Shoe Carnival Battle of the Champions, and the Be The Match Team Shootout.

Walker-Kimbrough will compete against Heather Corral (Washington), Tori Jankoska (Michigan State), Jessica January (DePaul), Alexis Jones (Baylor), Alexis Peterson (Syracuse), Kindred Wesemann (Kansas State) and Sydney Wiese (Oregon State).

Competing on the men's side will be Bryce Alford (UCLA), Torian Graham (Arizona State), Kris Jenkins (Villanova), Peter Jok (Iowa) Matt Jones (Duke), Nazareth Mitrou-Long (Iowa State), DeWayne Russell (Grand Canyon) and Derrick Walton Jr. (Michigan).

Over the last 28 years, several of the top players in college basketball have competed in the College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships including: Gary Payton, Steve Nash, Jason Terry, Kyle Korver, Bobby Hurley, Michael Finley, Denzel Valentine, Damon Stoudamire, Allan Houston, Wes Matthews, Cappie Pondexter, Katie Gearlds, and Kristi Toliver.

Walker-Kimbrough made the Associated Press All-America Third Team Monday for the second straight season.

Walker-Kimbrough averaged 18.8 points per game this year while shooting 45.0 percent. She also had 125 assists. Walker-Kimbrough is No. 4 on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 2,156 career points. Her career three-point percentage of 45.9 percent is the best in Maryland history, ahead of Toliver's 40.8 percent, and is a Big Ten record.

Walker-Kimbrough and teammate Brionna Jones were two of 14 players in the country named to the Wooden Award National Ballot and two of 10 ESPNW All-Americans. Jones is one of 10 semifinalists for the Naismith Trophy. They have earned a record of 125-17 (.880) in their careers.

They led the Terrapins to three Big Ten regular season and tournament titles, the 2014 and 2015 Final Fours and the 2017 Sweet Sixteen.
