ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Redshirt senior goalkeeper Rachel Egyed made a career-high 12 saves in the net for Maryland, but two second half goals from Michigan clinched a 2-1 win for the Wolverines Thursday night. Maryland (4-9-5, 2-6-2) held a 1-0 advantage early in the second period of play, but back-to-back strikes from the hosts would seal the one-goal win.
Egyed was outstanding for the Terps all night in the cage, as Michigan consistently found ways to generate pressure in the offensive end. The Clifton, N.J. native continued to hold her ground, making several diving stops early in the first half to keep the game scoreless. Â
Poarch broke through for the Terrapins early into the second half, as Anissa Mose set up a corner in the 47th minute. After a few deflections in the box, Poarch got a foot on the rebound and put it over the Michigan keeper's head to give her side a 1-0 lead.
Michigan would answer back with two consecutive goals the first coming in the 54th minute by Meredith Haakenson. The Wolverines would follow it up in the 67th, as Sarah Stratigakis finished a shot from eight yards away.
Maryland's chances were limited in the second half, as Michigan lcoked down on defense to secure the win.
Maryland will wrap up regular season play Sunday at home against Indiana. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 pm. Â
