COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's basketball team is ranked in the top 10 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Division I Coaches Preseason polls.
 
The Terrapins were ranked No. 9 in the Associated Press preseason poll, released Wednesday morning. They were ranked No. 10 in the Coaches poll, released Thursday.
 
Freshman Shakira Austin posted a double-double and junior Stephanie Jones tallied 18 points as the Terrapins defeated Kutztown, 90-63 in their first exhibition contest of the season Sunday.
 
Maryland was picked to win the Big Ten by both the league's head coaches and media panel, the conference announced last week. The Terps return four of five starters from last year's NCAA Tournament squad. Maryland also brings back 75 percent of its scoring from last season.
 
Maryland officially opens the season on Friday, Nov. 9 vs. Coppin State at 7 p.m. at XFINITY Center.
