COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland wrestling team (0-0, 0-0 B1G) will open its 2018-19 dual slate on Sunday, traveling to Penn (0-0) to take on the Quakers. The match will take place in "The Palestra", with wrestling slated to begin at 4 p.m. Fans can stream the action on ESPN+ ($).

SCOUTING THE QUAKERS
Penn opened its 2018-19 dual schedule on Thursday, falling to Rider, 20-18.
Penn started seven freshmen in the dual, with four claiming victories. They received victories at 125, 141, 149 and 174 pounds.
The Quakers will boast a strong freshman class. The group has been ranked as high as No. 12 in the country and is expected to be featured in their dual lineup.
EARLY ACTION
Despite not wrestling in dual competition in the first month of the regular season, Maryland has taken part in four open tournaments. The Terrapins have placed at least one wrestler in each of the four events, headlined by three first-place finishes.
Alfred Bannister kicked off his redshirt senior campaign with a championship run at the Princeton Open. Redshirt freshman
Kyle Jasenski then took home the 184-pound title at the ESU Open. Rounding out the trio is redshirt freshman
Hunter Baxter, who took home top honors at the Mat Town Open.
The Terrapins also placed four wrestlers at the ESU Open.
Adam Whitesell led Maryland's performance at the Wolfpack Open, finishing in fourth place.
INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
Senior heavyweight
Youssif Hemida brought home a silver medal after his performance in the U23 World Championships. Hemida posted a 3-1 record in the event, which took place in Bucharest, Romania.
The New York native opened his first international event with a 3-0 record before falling to 2015 World Junior Champion Said Gamid Gamidov of Russia. Hemida outscored his opponents 15-3 in his first three bouts.

The Terps will be returning 16 wrestlers who started a dual match last season, led by three NCAA Championship participants:

#MOOSETIME
Senior heavyweight
Youssif Hemida will look to build off his All-American 2017-18 campaign this season. He is expected to be one of the top contenders in the heavyweight class, joining Big Ten foes Sam Stoll (Iowa) and Nick Nevills (Penn State).
The New York native is coming off a season that featured a team-best 30 victories, which included a 15-1 dual record. He also tied for the second-most pins on the team with nine.
BABY'S BACK
Redshirt senior Alfred "Baby J" Bannister is gearing up for his final campaign in College Park. Bannister is coming off a second-consecutive placing at the Big Ten Championships and has also qualified for the NCAA Championships in each of the last two seasons.
He tallied an impressive 23 victories last season, including nine by way of fall. The Marylander rode a heater at the end of the season, knocking off a pair of ranked wrestlers at the Big Ten Championships to earn his spot in the national tournament.
THE REAL DIEHL
Rounding out Maryland's "Big Three" is redshirt senior
Ryan Diehl, who is fresh off his second-consecutive Big Ten placing and NCAA Championships appearance. Diehl finished last season with the second-most dual wins and conference victories on the roster.
His season was headlined by an upset win over ninth-seeded Nick Lee of Penn State in the NCAA Championships. Diehl stuck the Nittany Lion in the opening period to secure one of the biggest upsets of the weekend.
WELCOME TO MARYLAND, SHELTON MACK
In August, head coach
Kerry McCoy announced the addition of
Shelton Mack to his coaching staff for the upcoming season. Mack coached at Virginia for the previous three seasons after completing his collegiate career at Pittsburgh. His time at UVA included developing a pair of NCAA All-Americans.
While wrestling at Pittsburgh, Mack was a three-time NCAA qualifier. He posted a career-best 26 wins in his senior campaign.
OFFSEASON OFFERINGS
It was a busy summer for Maryland wrestling head coach
Kerry McCoy.
In Mary, McCoy was presented the Penn State Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes the achievements of outstanding PSU Alumni.
McCoy also increased his involvement with USA Wrestling, coaching the Junior Pan Am Freestyle team in Brazil, as well as assuming the role of Secretary of USA Wrestling.
REDSHIRT REVIEW
A handful of wrestlers will be looking to get into the varsity competition after serving a redshirt year in 2017-18.
Philip Spadafora finished last season with the fourth-most wins on the team (18) and tied for the most technical fall victories on the roster. He finished third at the Princeton Open, fourth at the ESU Open and F&M Open, and first at the Messiah Open.
Kyle Jasenski also performed well in his redshirt season. He tallied 15 wins and tied for the second-most major decision victories on the team. Jasenski finished fourth in the 174-pound bracket at the Mat Town Open.
Hunter Baxter also found success while redshirting last season. He earned a fourth-place finish at three events: the ESU Open, Mat Town Open and Messiah Open.
HOME SWEET HOME
Maryland's 2018-19 roster boasts 17 wrestlers from the state of Maryland. This is the most on a Terrapin roster since there were 16 Marylanders on the 2014-15 squad.
