STORYLINES
•  The two schools will meet for just the fourth time in the all-time series, which Maryland leads 2-1. This will be the first meeting since Maryland captured a 104-69 win over the Pirates at Cole Field House on December 29, 1975.Â
•  Anthony Cowan Jr. scored 23 points, freshman Jalen Smith added a career-high 20 and Maryland used a 19-0 run to secure a 94-71 victory over Loyola of Maryland their last time out on December 11.Â
•  Smith was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on December 17 after a career-best performance against Loyola (Md.), scoring a career-high 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while adding eight rebounds and two blocks. It marks the second Freshman of the Week honor of the season for the Baltimore native, who currently ranks third on the team in points (11.7/g) and second in rebounds (7.1/g), while ranking fifth in the Big Ten in offensive rebounds (2.9/g).
•  Six different Terps finished in double figures in the win over the Greyhounds, marking the first time since Maryland's 91-73 win over Iowa on Jan. 1, 2017 that at least six Maryland players totaled double digits in a game. Â
•  Anthony Cowan Jr. scored 17 points and No. 23 Maryland used its smothering defense to beat Loyola of Chicago 55-41 on December 8. Cowan became the 55th player in Maryland history to score 1,000 career points, hitting the milestone with a free throw in the first half of the game at Royal Farms Arena.
•  Maryland's 41 points allowed against Loyola Chicago were the fewest scored by an opponent this season, and the lowest total allowed by a Maryland team since the Terps beat Monmouth 71-38 on Dec. 12, 2012. The 41 points is the second fewest allowed under head coach Mark Turgeon in his eight seasons at Maryland.Â
•  Maryland posted 13 blocks in their win over the Ramblers, the most in a game for Maryland since January 9, 2013 when the Terps finished with 13 blocks vs. Florida State. The mark ties the most blocks for a Terrapin team under Turgeon. Â
•  Sophomore Bruno Fernando has thrived defensively in his role as the team's rim protector, averaging a Big Ten-best 2.5 blocked shots per game. Fernando has hit his career-high four blocks four different times this season, including Maryland's last two games.Â
