COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Sophomore outside hitter
Erika Pritchard earned a spot on the All-North Region squad on Tuesday, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced.
Pritchard, who last week became the first ever Terp to earn First Team All-Big Ten honors, this time becomes the first Maryland volleyball player to earn AVCA All-Region honors since Ashleigh Crutcher in 2012. The Maryland native is now eligible for the AVCA All-America Teams, which will be announced next week.
The sophomore led the Big Ten this season at 4.32 kills/set and stood 14th nationally in both kills and points (552.5), which stands as the second-best mark in the Big Ten. Pritchard was instrumental to Maryland's program-best nine Big Ten wins, totaling the second most kills ever by a Maryland player with 493 to go with 287 digs, 65 blocks, 22 aces and 18 assists
Pritchard recorded double-digit kills in 27 of Maryland's 32 matches, led the team in kills in 29, posted the most double-doubles by any Terp in a season since 2010 (14), and three times broke her own career-high in kills, ultimately setting the mark with 31 in Maryland's five set win over Iowa (10/28). Defensively, Pritchard had 14 matches with over 10 digs, including a career-best 19 against South Carolina (9/8).
The AVCA All-North Region team consists of 14 players from six different schools. 12 of the 14 student-athletes on the team are from the Big Ten as is the Player of the Year (Samantha Seliger-Swenson, Minnesota), the Freshman of the Year (Adanna Rollins, Minnesota) and the Coach of the Year (Hugh McCutcheon, Minnesota).
