COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Redshirt senior Alfred Bannister and redshirt freshman Kyle Jasenski each posted wins as the Maryland wrestling team (0-2, 0-0 B1G) opened up its home match slate vs. Navy on Friday evening. The Midshipmen (1-1), however, would secure eight wins to take the dual 31-6. 

In the lone ranked matchup of the evening, 18^th-ranked Bannister took on Navy's No. 19 Jared Prince in the 149-pound bout. The La Plata, Md. native got to work early in the first, hitting a double leg on Prince to score a 2-1 lead in the first.

After trading escapes, Bannister held a tight 3-2 lead into the third, before coming through with a clutch late takedown with 30 seconds to go. Prince would find his way out, but time expired as Bannister secured his first dual win of the season.

Jasenski continued his impressive early dual match slate Friday, picking up his second straight win at 184 pounds with a 3-2 decision over Navy's Anthony Cable. It was another early takedown for the Terp that made the difference, as he raced out to a 2-0 first period lead.

Escapes from both wrestlers would make it 3-2 in the third, but Jasenski fought off Cable's last ditch shot attempt to improve to 7-2 on the year.

Navy controlled the match with three wins in the lightweights, before Bannister's decision victory made it 12-3. Another trio of wins from the midshipmen would put the Terps in a 20-point hole, before Jasenski stopped the bleeding with his win at 184. Back-to-back bonus point wins for Navy would close out the night.  

Maryland will return to the mat Sunday to host Central Michigan at the XFINITY Center Pavilion at 2 pm.
