COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The No. 2 Maryland men's lacrosse team is set to travel to High Point for the first time in program history as the teams collide Saturday at noon at Vert Stadium.
The programs have met twice in history, with the Terps winning both meetings in 2016 and 2017. It is the final game before Maryland opens a tough stretch against ranked teams in 9-of-10 matchups.
BY THE NUMBERS
1 - The Terrapins' special teams units have been highly efficient at both ends of the field, leading the country in both man-up and man-down categories. In fact, Maryland has been flawless, converting on all three man-up attempts (3-3) and killing both man-down penalties (2-2).
4 - Maryland head coach John Tillman is 4-0 against current Southern Conference opponents since taking over the program in 2011, posting a pair of wins against both High Point and Bellarmine. The Terps have scored at least 12 goals in all four games, while never allowing more than 10 goals.
6 - The Maryland defense ranks sixth nationally and leads the Big Ten allowing just 5.5 goals per game so far in 2018, despite the absence of All-American Bryce Young due to injury. Junior Curtis Corley has anchored the defense, and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Navy.
7 - Senior Connor Kelly has posted seven assists through the first two games of the season after totaling just 11 in 2017 despite finishing with 57 points. Kelly matched his career-high with three assists in the opener against Navy, before posting four assists against Marist on Tuesday.
9 - The Terrapins are currently riding a nine-game winning streak dating back to April 22, 2017 - the longest streak in the country. The program's longest win streak in history was an improbable 31 games spanning four seasons from 1954 to 1957.
15 - Senior Connor Kelly (4g,4a) and sophomore Jared Bernhardt (5g,2a) were sensational against Marist, combining for 15 points in the victory. It was the most points for a Maryland duo in the same game since 1991, when Mark Douglas and Rob Wurzburger combined for 15 points against Ohio State.
22 - Junior faceoff man Austin Henningsen has been superb historically against High Point, winning 22-of-29 (.759) faceoffs in two meetings. Henningsen posted a career-high three points (1g, 2a) last season, while winning 13-of-17 (.765) at the X. He won 16-of-22 (.727) draws Tuesday against Marist.
98 - Head coach John Tillman needs one win to tie Dave Cottle for third in Maryland history with 99 coaching victories. The duo of Jack Faber & Al Heagy won 225 games from 1931-63, while Dick Edell is second with 171 wins from 1984-2001.
