MADISON, Wisc. -- Junior Millie Stretton continued her strong play with a 2-0 record on the day but the Maryland women's tennis team (6-7, 0-2 B1G) fell to Wisconsin, 5-2, on Sunday.
Stretton's day started with a doubles win alongside partner Eva Alexandrova. The duo picked 6-2 victory at first doubles and then Stretton followed it with a 6-3, 7-6 victory at third singles.
Maryland started the match well, claiming the doubles point with a pair of wins at first and second doubles. After Alexandrova and Stretton won at first doubles, Ekaterina Tour and Katsiaryna Yemelyanenka earned a 6-1 win at the second doubles position to clinch the opening point of the match.
Wisconsin was able to answer and even the score when singles play began, securing a win at fourth singles that tied the match at one. The Badgers then took the lead following a win at second singles.
Stretton then evened the score with her third singles victory, but the Badgers responded with three-straight singles wins to take a 5-2 victory.
Maryland will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 24, when the Terps travel to Rutgers for the third and final match of their three-match road trip to begin conference play.
