COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland scored five runs on 11 hits, including a three-run fourth inning to clinch a 5-2 win and take command of its series vs. Iowa Saturday. Three different Terrapins tallied multi-hit games, including junior Mikayla Werahiko, who notched two singles and a team-high two runs in the victory.

Maryland (14-20, 4-1 B1G) has now won four straight games, and has clinched back-to-back Big Ten series victories for the first time since the Terrapins joined the conference. Iowa falls to 15-16 (1-3 B1G) with the loss.

With the game knotted at two heading into the bottom of the fourth, Maryland's offense responded with a decisive three-run inning to help put the game out of reach. Back-to-back singles from Kassidy Cross and Taylor Wilson got runners on with no outs, before Amanda Brashear put them in position with a sacrifice bunt in her ensuing at bat.  

Destiney Henderson would then bring in the go ahead run on a sac fly to center field for her first RBI of the year. The Fontana, Calif. native made a highlight play earlier in the first inning, diving for a catch in the right center gap in her first start in the field this season.

Skylynne Ellazar added some insurance in the fourth, knocking a single up the middle that turned into two runs after a fielding error by the center fielder. Ryan Denhart took care of business in the final three innings from the circle, allowing just two hits to seal the three-run win.

Maryland's offense got started early in the first, thanks to a pair of RBI singles from Anna Kufta and Brigette Nordberg. Starter Sami Main held her own in the circle through the first three innings, allowing just two hits. The Hawkeyes managed to tie the game in the fourth on a solo shot and a triple, before Denhart entered to escape the jam.

Maryland will go for the sweep tomorrow at Maryland stadium for the series finale at noon.
