Maryland Adds Transfer Hailey Rubino

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Hailey Rubino, an outside hitter from Leesburg, Va. has transferred to Maryland and will be eligible to play for the Terps this upcoming season, head coach Adam Hughes announced.

"We are thrilled that Hailey is coming back to the DMV," said Hughes. "Hailey has a great feel for the game, she was a great athlete in club and an exceptional beach player. Not only is she a great athlete, she is a great student and all around person. We are happy to have her as a part of our family."

Rubino spent last season at the University of New Mexico where she started in all 28 matches she played in for the Lobos, finishing fourth on the team in kills (178, 1.78/set) and digs (216, 2.16/set). She posted seven matches with double-figure kills, including a season-best 18 kill performance against Nevada, while also tallying at least 10 digs in 10 matches in the back row, with a season-high of 15 against Portland State. Rubino also finished with two double-doubles on the season and added 26 total blocks with eight service aces.

In high school at Loudon County High School and Paul VI Catholic High School, Rubino earned a plethora of honors. She was named the 2016 Washington Post All-Met Player of the Year, a 2016 PrepVolleyball.com All-American, a Second-Team Under Armour All-American, the 2016 VHSL 4A State Player of the Year, the 2016 VHSL 4A West Region Player of the Year and the 2016 VHSL 4A Conference 21B Player of the Year.

As a senior at Loudon County High School, Rubino helped the Raiders win the 4A State Championship and Conference 21 East Championship, totaling over 1,000 kills.

Rubino also played club volleyball for the nearby Metro Volleyball Club of DC, playing on the same club team as fellow incoming transfer Nicole Alford

Rubino, who has three years of eligibility remaining, will join fellow newcomers in sophomore transfer Nicole Alford and freshmen Emma Scrhiner, Allegra Rivas and Rainelle Jones on a young, talented Terps squad in Adam Hughes' first season as head coach in 2018.
